“Modern Vacuum Practice” (which was originally published by McGraw-Hill Book Company) is recognised as being the introductory book that every vacuum novice needs. It has been extremely successful having already sold over 11,000 copies and having received many very complimentary reviews.
Just released, the 2nd Edition of the book is an update having an additional chapter at the back of the book. Since the book was first published many advances in pumping technology have taken place with, for example, the introduction of ‘new’ dry vacuum pump mechanisms based on scroll, screw and claw technologies.
Additionally, there have been several design developments in and combinations of drag and turbomolecular pumps. Recent advances in turbomolecular pumps allow small diaphragm pumps to be used as backing pumps. Vacuum pressure measurement has seen the introduction of active gauging. Included in this edition are definitions of the different vacuum measurement scales.
It is intended with the addition of a chapter (another 42 pages) to the original text, to review these developments, and bring the book more up-to-date.
