I agree with everything said but I believe you can use a smaller electrode. Perhaps the design previously specified is most efficient but I have had pretty good luck with something smaller. I generally use a 1/2" wide x 1/4" thick x about 8" long piece of aluminum attached to the feedthru. And yes of course be sure it does not mask your mirror during evaporation. Glow cannot be achieved at pressures that would allow quality evaporation but you should use a guage. Make sure you deposit quickly, the films aren't as nice if you go to slow.
