You can find some diffusion pump diagrams in some vacuum technology handbooks. I think you can start with that. I, however, would suggest you to have a cheap used pump first and break it apart. After that, you can get quite some idea about a diffusion pump structure. You can go checking some web sites selling used equipement to find an old pumps.
