NRDC performs materials and process R&D for Saint Gobain and Norton businesses. NRDC combines state-of-the-art laboratories, analytical capabilities, prototype and pilot operations. NRDC is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to provide technical expertise in the area of ceramic processing and physical characterization.

Job Description:
As part of the Forming/Physical Measurements Group within Processing Services the candidate is expected to lead R&D projects and develop characterization methodology to solve technical problems of Saint-Gobain businesses.
The candidate will work closely with businesses to identify project opportunities and develop research projects which would lead to improved material properties, new products or improved processes. Areas of interest include ceramic powder processing (milling, mixing, dispersion, spray drying etc.), forming (pressing, casting, extrusion, injection molding, etc.), and densification (HIP, GPS, Hot Pressing etc.)
In addition, the candidate will work closely with customers, staff and other R&D groups to solve problems utilizing expertise in material characterization technologies such as particle size analysis, physical measurements (rheology, porosimetry, surface area, etc.), and thermal analysis (TGA/DTA, TGA-MS, dilatometry).
The candidate will be expected to evaluate emerging technologies in forming methods and material characterization to maintain state of the art capabilities and meet the needs of our businesses.

Skills and Requirements:
Skills associated with an advanced engineering degree (MS/Ph.D.) in Ceramic Engineering, Material Science or Chemical Engineering and 0-3 years of industrial experience. Experience with ceramic processing technology is highly desirable. Familiarity with related material characterization technology is strongly recommended. Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, and solve customer's problems. Must be customer focused and able to interact with all levels of the organization and a variety of customers. Excellent written and oral communication skills

Environment & Physical Requirements:
The position is located in a laboratory environment with some exposure to chemicals, powders & materials of various compositions. Frequent standing, sitting, computer & telephone usage. May occasionally lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
