Job Description:
An exciting opportunity exists in the Ceramic Grains & Powders' (CGP) R&D group in the
Northboro Research and Development Center. The CGP group is in need of an exceptional
individual to fill the position of Senior Research Engineer to lead projects in synthesis of
ceramic nano-particles for electronic applications. The CGP group is a part of
Saint-Gobain Corporation, a worldwide leader in industrial materials. The candidate will
work with marketing, customers and other senior staff to identify research opportunities and
carry out research projects in the areas of nano ceramic particle synthesis, processing and
their application in the electronic areas. The candidate will develop experimental
approaches, execute experiments, collect data, interpret results and recommend future
actions toward achieving project goals. Project activities will include but are not limited to
synthesis & testing of nano-particles for CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization) and
polishing applications as well as definition of a scalable process for their commercialization.
The candidate is also expected to interact closely with customers in support of growth of
existing nano particles in CMP & polishing applications as well as developing &
implementing next generation nano particles. Data and results are to be presented in oral
and written form as appropriate; comprehensive research presentations are required in the
quarterly R&D review for synthesis of past results & future directions. In addition to the
project work, the candidate is to survey relevant patent areas to identify proprietary
opportunities & working closely with the Technical Service Group, is expected to
aggressively pursue such opportunities to establish a good technical base in growing
markets. Also the candidate is to proactively seek & be up to date with the rapidly changing
CMP technology trends so that he/she will be able to steer the project work from a sound
technical & market basis.

Skills and Requirements:
Skills associated with a Graduate Degree, preferably a Ph.D, in Materials Science,
Ceramic Science, Physical Sciences or related engineering discipline with experience or
exposures in ceramic nano particle synthesis through chemical processing techniques
(sol-gel, colloid chemistry) & their properties in aqueous/non aqueous slurry systems;
knowledge in particle behavior & requirements in chemical mechanical planarization of
semiconductor wafers and polishing will be valuable assets. The candidate must also be
well organized, have the ability to communicate with R&D staff, marketing, customers and
manufacturing. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Knowledge of
personal computer systems and general-purpose software are desired.
