NATURE OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Deputed by M/s SICGIL India Ltd., the largest CO2 manufacturer in India, to head both the units at Baroda and Taloja of the former Hydrogas PLG India Ltd., a Norwegian company operating in India for the last five years and which was up for sale and acquired by them.
Ø Given the assignment of turning the company round by effective Management of Resources, which has been achieved with success and improving further.
Ø Responsible for Total Operations and Logistics / Distribution of the Product from Baroda throughout Gujarat, parts of Rajasthan and Maharashtra with their fleet of over 12 Large Capacity Mobile Tankers.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Ø Plant Loading and Yield Efficiency Factors of >95%
Ø Reduction of Operational Costs in all areas of operation by an average of 30%.
Ø Instrumental in Introduction of Systems in all areas of operation and as Management Representative realised the objective of Certification of both the units for ISO 9001 2000.
Ø Introduced effective instrumentation for Total Plant Flow Measurement and Storage Tank Measurement based on the differential pressure principle.
Ø Introduced effective conversion of Dry Ice Presses from manual to PLC control resulting in improved productivity and reduced manning.
Ø Successfully negotiated with contract drivers for better operating standards and reduced transport operating costs by 0.6 Million Rupees a year.
Ø Presently involved in planning and execution of two major plants in North India

Period : Sept.’99 to March 2002
M/s SICGIL India Ltd. : DGM – Operations- Manali Unit, Chennai
Ø Headed Operations for the largest unit of M/s Sicgil India Ltd capable of producing 100 Tons of pure liquid CO2 at Manali in Chennai as Deputy General Manager.
Ø Responsible for Total Operations and Logistics and distribution of the product from Chennai throughout Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal with their fleet of over 40 mobile tankers.
Ø Responsible for Introducing Systems in the factory in all areas of operation for effective control.
Ø Responsible for ISO 9001 Certification, which was successfully achieved in 6 months time in March 2000.
Ø Successfully negotiated with contract drivers for better operating standards and reduced transport operating costs bringing a net saving of over 0.9 Million Rupees a year.
Ø Successfully negotiated with the workers union for a four-year long-term settlement linked to productivity, which has been a Win – Win for both Management and Workers. Operating costs reduced by 0.35 to 0.4 Million Rupees per annum with improved productivity standards equalling the best benchmark set thus far in the gases industry.
Ø Introduced the Semi Automatic Filling System for Liquefied CO2 bottling in all eight units of M/s SICGIL India Ltd. resulting in improved safety and savings to the tune of 15%.

BRITISH OXYGEN COMPANY – INDIA LTD.
FOREMAN – Visakhapatnam Unit
Ø In charge of Production & Maintenance of 140 Nm3/Hr. Cryogenic Oxygen and Acetylene Plants.
Ø Scheduled Maintenance & running repairs of Air Separation Units, Air Compressors , Expansion Engines , Blowers, Pumps and Gas Compressors.
Ø Responsible for a work force of about 80 people.
Period: Jan’ 87 To Aug’ 87
ENGINEERING OFFICER GRADE V – Jamshedpur Unit
Ø Member of commissioning team which successfully commissioned the first 120 TPD Oxygen plant for M/s. BOC India Ltd., incorporating latest technology from BOC Ltd. UK.
Ø Worked on sophisticated equipment like PLC Controlled High-Speed Centrifugal Compressors, Expansion Turbines, Refrigeration Compressors, Liquid Transfer Pumps, High Purity Gas Compressors etc.
Period: Sept’ 87 To March ‘ 88
ENGINEERING OFFICER GRADE V – Asansol Unit
Ø In charge of Production & Maintenance of 400 Nm3/Hr. Cryogenic Oxygen Plants, Acetylene Plants, Hydrogen Plant and Argon Purification plant.
Ø Scheduled maintenance & running repairs of Air Separation Units, Air Compressors, Expansion Engines, Blowers, Pumps and Gas Compressor and other equipment related to Hydrogen / Argon plants.
Ø Responsible for a work force of about 200 people.

Period: March ‘ 88 To Jun’ 92 – ENGINEERING OFFICER GRADE V - Calcutta
& w.e.f. July ‘ 92- ENGINEERING OFFICER GRADE IV
Ø In charge of Production & Maintenance of 400 Nm3/Hr. Cryogenic Oxygen Plants, Acetylene Plant and Nitrous Oxide plant.
Ø Scheduled maintenance & running repairs of Air Separation Units, Air Compressors, Expansion Engines, Blowers, Pumps and Gas Compressors and other equipment related to Nitrous Oxide plants.
Ø Responsible for a work force of about 200 people.
Period: w.e.f. 1st May’ 93 Acting PRODUCTION MANAGER
w.e.f. April’ 95 Promoted as PRODUCTION MANAGER GRADE III
Ø Responsible for discussing with the recognised Labour Union on various Labour related Plant Operational Issues and Industrial Relations (IR).
Ø Scheduling all Production and Maintenance Activities in liaison with Sales, Marketing and Distribution to meet market requirements of all Industrial Gases produced in the unit.
Ø Responsible for Weekly and Monthly - MIS and Productivity Reports being sent to Corporate Office.
Ø Responsible for Installation and successful commissioning of a Rs. 2.5 Million Project of M/s BOC India Ltd. at Calcutta with respect to Modernisation of its High Pressure Cylinder Test Shop Operations in line with BOC UK’s Test Shop Design and Standards.
Ø Responsible for implementing the NOSA (National Occupational Safety Association) - System of Safety Program in M/s BOC India Ltd’s. Plant Operations at Calcutta.
Ø Responsible for Erection, Installation and Commissioning of M/s BOC India Ltd’s Rs. 13 Million Modern Vertical Palletised Cylinder Filling Facility at Howrah.
Ø Responsible for Erection, Installation and Commissioning of M/s BOC India Ltd’s Rs. 1.0 Million Effluent Treatment Plant for Nitrous Oxide Effluents in line with West Bengal Pollution Control Board requirements
Ø Responsible for the entire HAZOP study conducted on M/s BOC India’s Oxygen, Acetylene and Nitrous Oxide plants at Calcutta followed by Consequence Analysis and subsequent ON-SITE and OFF-SITE Emergency Plans as per the requirement and directive of the West Bengal Pollution Control Board.
Ø Responsible for the implementation of M/s BOC UK’s Engineering Operating Standards in M/s BOC India’s factory at Calcutta which was highly appreciated and recommended to be used as a Model by M/s BOC UK’s Group Director - Safety in his re-audit a year later.

Period: w.e.f. October ‘ 97- Acting PLANT MANAGER
Ø Given additional charge of Gasses Division -Distribution Activities for Calcutta Units (Commercial Oxygen, Medical Oxygen. Dissolved Acetylene & Nitrous Oxide).

Period: w.e.f. April’ 98 - Promoted To Grade II
Ø Handled the additional responsibility of finalisation of the total Technical and Commercial Specifications for a Rs.10 Million Project for Carbide Sludge Effluent Treatment Plant.
Period: w.e.f. April ‘ 99 – Opted for Voluntary Retirement to take up an Overseas Assignment at Botswana but plans of which had to be revised due to personal constraints at home.

OTHER EXPERIENCES (Prior To Joining BOC – India Ltd. From Oct’ 78)

Capital Dredging Project, Naval Base, Visakhapatnam.
Ø Manning and maintenance of Main Diesel Engine, Dredge Pump, Engine Room Machinery and Equipment on the Dredger.


Period: Aug’ 76 To May ‘ 77 – SUPERVISOR - M/s Krebs & Cie (India) Pvt. Ltd. Calcutta, Project contractors for SULPHURIC ACID PLANT for M/s Hindustan Zinc Ltd. Visakhapatnam.
Ø Supervising the Fabrication and Erection of various machinery and equipment like Heavy Duty Pumps, Motors and Blowers etc. and Structural Framework for supporting large overhead Hot Gas Ducts for Sulphur Dioxide and Absorption and Drying Towers and Cooling Grids for Sulphuric Acid.
Ø Member of the commissioning team responsible for Commissioning / Production Guarantee Tests of the 220 TPD Sulphuric Acid Plant.

Period: May’ 76 To July’ 76 – APPRENTICE ENGINEER – Union Carbide
Ø Maintenance and running repairs of Caterpillar Diesel Engines and Cummins Generators, Pumps, Winches etc on their fishing trawlers.
Period: Sept.’75 to Apr.’76 - SUPERVISOR in M/s Agness Industries, Visakhapatnam.
Ø Supervision of Machine shop work and General Engineering Fabrication involving Welding, Grinding, Turning, Fitting etc.

OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS
Ø Participated in a week long residential Supervisory Development Programme conducted by M/s BOC India Ltd. at IIM, Calcutta in August 1982 with both internal and external faculty. Presented a paper on ‘ Role of Supervisor in Management’.
Ø Participated in Southern Region Safety Conference of M/s BOC India Ltd. held in Madras in March ’84. Presented a paper on ‘ Safety in Gas Compressor Operations’.
Ø Participated in a week long residential ‘Training for Trainers’ programme conducted by M/s BOC India Ltd. at IIM, Calcutta in May 91 with both internal and external faculty.
