Engineering Director

Location : Edinburgh

Client : Established in the USA in 1990 our client has grown to become one of the world’s premier providers of internet and voice e-commerce portal solutions. Currently turning over approximately $45m the company employs over 400 staff and is continuing to expand having recently been recognised as one of silicon valleys top 100 fastest growing companies for the third year running. Latest figure put growth at over 40%pa.
As part of a global strategy our client is setting up a brand new development facility in Edinburgh to become a worldwide centre of excellence in natural language products and to localize existing products for the EMEA market.

Salary : Basic £70,000 - £90,000 + Bonus + Bens.

Responsibilities:

Manage and recruit, Computation Linguistic Engineers, Localization Engineers, Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers.
• Develop Natural Language Understanding products and work with Edinburgh University to support research projects.
• Management and localization engineering aspects for international versions of the Edify products:
• Manage development projects and track project schedules.
• Manage interaction and coordination with external partners.
• Work with regional offices and International Marketing to identify customer requirements and generate product specifications.
• Design development processes, localization development tools and product features, create high-level and detailed design documents, and conduct design reviews.
• Help implement new processes, product features and development tools using, for example, SQL, C, C++, VB and Edify tools, in a Windows NT environment.
• Lead development projects and provide technical guidance to Engineers.
• Enhance and maintain existing product capabilities and processes pertaining to international versions of the Edify product family
• Help to ensure total product quality and customer satisfaction.
• Forecast, plan, and manage site spending

Requirements

Bachelor Degree, or equivalent experience (Project Management, Computer Science, or related)
• 5+ years experience in management
• 5+ years experience in project leadership
• 5+ years experience with international software with an in-depth knowledge of software localization issues including various regional practices
• Experience in working with Edinburgh University Research is a plus
• Experience in application development a strong plus, including knowledge in CTI, Java, SQL and relational database concepts
• Knowledge of Call Centre Solutions (CTI, CMS, IVR)
• Knowledge of Computational Linguistics is a strong plus
• Experience working with external localization agencies and partners a plus
• Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
