Studies on stress concentration around fillets in Press frame using FEM/NISA.
With the advances in computer technology and CAD systems, one of the most powerful techniques that has been developed in the realm of engineering analysis is the finite element method (FEM). The FEM is general and general purpose program “Numerically Integrated Elements for System Analysis”(NISA) in particularly offers a powerful tool for engineering analysis and design. This method has been introduced to predict the static behavior of mechanical structure.
The work we have done here is mainly concerned with design of press frame using conventional adaptive design technique. The geometric modeling , stress analysis, physical realization of stress distribution and deformation were made using FEM/NISA. A variety of model discretization were used to capture the steep stress gradients in the vicinity of fillets of different sizes. The degree of accuracy of achievable can be assessed from stress concentration graph. The effect of fillet radius on stress distribution is studied with great care.
