I've had my home made one with the compound vices running for about a year with pretty good luck after I modified the screw nuts
I have been using it to help me make a better mill using a drill press base and a good X Y table

I am almost done making my 7 X 10 lathe into CNC using the same software and timing pullys for more more power.

I need CNC on the lathe to make spindle parts for the mill. ( I want it to have an R8 taper for standard tool holders )

I might be able to help
Maybe you have made some of the same dumb mistakes I did
