6061 is a common alloy that contains silicon and magnesium. Approx in(Mg2Si). More difficult to machine than say 2xxx series. Use sharp cutting tools, good coolent/lubrication, to get a good finish, use a moderatly heavy cut. The T6 is the tempor, a T4 would be solution heat treated but not precipitation heat treated. strengthened after forming to full T6 properties by precipitation heat treatment.6xxx series alloys have good formability, weldability, machinability, and corrosion resistance, with medium strength.
