You might care to check out the offerings from "Supercircuits" (info@ccd.scx.com) -- my catalogue from them is a couple of years old but I believe that they are still in business.
They show a number of kits for video/Audio Tx/Rx
purposes ranging from simple 100 feet range using Ch 14 on regular TV to several in the UHF and higher frequencies. I believe that you may find this form of assembly the most trouble-free, as any "home-brew" circuitry involves quite a lot of specialised parts not always readily available.
I also recall a construction article in a Gernsback publication about 2 or 3 years ago. You might take a look at their Web offerings, as there is a reprint service available.
