2. are you getting passed the usb enumeration stage?

Usb isn't your average COM or LTP interface - it takes a whole lot of firmware just to get passed the enumeration stage - that's when you have to start worring about the PC side of things - develop your own driver or enumerate as a standard class device (where the drivers are supplied with the window$ OS)
