Thanks for your input, Dean. I have info from another source saying that the gas in Nixies is very likely similar to that used in figural neon glow lamps, 99.0 - 99.5 % neon + 1.0 - 0.5 % argon at a total pressure of around 8 Torr.

I hadn't thought to try Burroughs, are they still in business? I found an internet site which has an index to the contents of a collection of Burroughs documents that they have stored somewhere but most of it seems to be corporate stuff rather than technical.
