Here in the States, all the RV accessory dealers sell devices they call isolators. The allow the vehicle alternator to charge the engine battery and the RV/travel trailer/camper/caravan battery simulaneously but when the engine is off, not allow the engine battery to discharge through the RV's system.

You can make the same thing using a relay. When the ignition is on, the relay is pulled in, putting both batteries in parallel. When the ignition is off, the RV battery is disconnected from the towing vehicle. A hot carrier (Schottky) rectifier in series with the RV battery line (cathode towards the RV battery) can keep the trailer battery from burning up wiring if the towing vehicle battery is flat dead when you try to start the engine and not alter RV charging current all that much.
