i want to construct a circuit that can take the excess current from my car battery and use this to recharge my caravan battery when on site, the circuit must cut out and leave enough energy to reststart the car after charging.
i would like this to deliver possibly 8 amps.

can some one please help with this little project or advise me. i was considering using a switchmode power supply to achive the required output i need but this seems like a long winded process. surely ther is a more simple method of doing what i want . any help or schematics much appriciated
