The HD38880 is a 28-pin speech synthesisis chip made by Hitachi in the mid-80's. The HD38882 is a ~39-pin EPROM inteface chip capable of a 1-Mbit connection made by Hitachi in the mid-80's. Most of the time these two chips worked in conjunction. Perhaps related to the HD38880BP and the HD38882PA06.
Hitachi has not been forthcoming with information both from their website or through phone calls, and pretty much every online resource has not found any info, including Questlink, Chipdir, USENET:sci.electronics.components and other miscellaneous sources.
