Subject: 14" Hercules/Ajax Lathe

I recently purchased a Hercules/Ajax Gap Lathe. It measures 16"(23"
with gap removed) x 60". On the base of the tailstock end, is 14" in
large numbers? I am working on a manual for it from Machinery Manuals
on the Web. What I am interested in is the date of manufacturer.
Serial # <>309 is stamped in the backside way at the tailstock end. The
<> is a diamond shape symbol in front of 309. I have contacted Mazak
who I understood bought out or once marketed under the Hercules/Ajax
name(I don't know which?), but they were of no help. Anyone out there
have a 14" Hercules/Ajax that has anymore information? It is a very
nice lathe with many "modern" features so I do not believe it is real
old. My guess is 1960-70s.
