I am seeking an alternative method for achieving a polished surface in an engraved pattern. The object is brass sheet that has been plated in black nickel. It was produced in the 1920's and has oxidized. Till now I have used toothpicks and polishing compound, occasionally chucking a toothpick in a dremel for some power. Is there a solution that would produce a "bright" finish without harming the plating?
